Welcome to the site! I am thrilled that you have decided to embark on this summer journey with us. I would like to tell you a little about myself and what we will be doing for the next ten weeks.
I think I was born to be a teacher. I played one in my 4th grade play and forever had the bug for it then! I am also a mom, which I never thought I was born to be, but that is another story for another day. Amazing what God can show you when you think you know better! Teacher's children get an unfair rap sometimes for being able to do everything because their parent is a teacher. Both of my children are in high school and do pretty well, but my daughter has ALWAYS struggled with reading. That is what made me decide to get my Master's degree in Reading and Writing. Someone asked me one time, "How hard can it be to teach a kid to read?" I simply laughed and decided they wouldn't even begin to understand. I have a soft place in my heart for struggling readers, right next to the spot for the students who love to read. I dream someday that those spots will melt together and all students will love to read! Even though she struggles as a reader, she is still able to be a successful student and that is what I strive to pass along. Being a struggling reader does not label you as a bad student or as a failure.
I am excited to share the next ten weeks with you as we talk about helping your student and mine as well as some things about grown up reading that you may have wanted to know but were afraid to ask. Just like my classroom, this is a non threatening environment. Feel free to ask questions, no one will laugh.
For your first post, please tell us a little about yourself. Remember, in order to qualify for the gas card drawing we need to see you here at least once a week for ten weeks. If you get a little off, just let me know and we can work it out.
